Replacing Manifold and Riser Elbow

OK, I've done the work on my 2005 mercruiser 3.0 for the last 4 years that I've owned the boat. It's now come time to replace the exhaust manifold and riser (I'm in salt water). I've seen a couple youtubes on replacing the manifold and riser, but those were for a v-8 and volvo. The theory is pretty much the same, but they always make it look too easy - like starting with everything close to removed. I've also read service manual 26 and this seems like a doable job. I'm always open for advice, and i guess my first question is where's a good place (besides iboats) to get a complete manifold/riser with all the gaskets for the mercruiser 3.0? I wouldn't mind buying siera, but i want to make sure i get the right one. Would be a big PITA sending this wrong order back!

Second, should I do anything with the carb as it needs to come off? For some reason, i have feeling the carb removal/reinstall is going to be the worst part of this job. Finally, any advice is welcome. If there's a good link for this process, I'd be happy to know about it.

Re: Replacing Manifold and Riser Elbow

the carb removal/install is the easiest part, if your concerned about how it all goes back together take lots of pics

sierra is probably what you will get here on iboats, ive never ordered from here but would bet either sierra or osco, they are both reputable OEM replacement manifolds

otherwise, you can go OEM used but used is used, so caveat emptor with that route

get yourself some long studs or bolts with the same thread pitch as the manifold bolts and cut the heads off, you can use them as "cheaters" in removing and more importantly installing the new manifold

Thanks everyone. Great idea about using long bolts to hold the new one in place. Would've spent a few hours using bad language otherwise.

Anyone use Marines Parts House? They have the manifold (with gaskets and bolts) for $298, the elbow for $147 and shipping for $70.

Very good luck with Lighthouse Marine "partsman" Osco was very good USA quality, but ONLY use OEM Mercruiser Gaskets....
