My metal fuel line (the one from the carb to the pump) is toast. Can i replace it with a rubber hose line instead and just use zip ties and hose barbs?

Not leagally or safely.
The pressure line from the fuel pump to the carb must be steel with double flared ends.
You can make one if you have a double flare tool and tubing bender. Just go to any autoparts store and get a steel 3/8? brake line and bend to shape an cut to length.

No :)

You would have to use fittings and hose that would meet the requirements for the presssure side of the fuel pump

Which cost more than a new fit and go boating OEM metal line

Once you have it bent to shape, most auto parts stores can double flare the ends for you.

Be safe, this is NOT one area you want to mess with. The end result could be disastrous!

Thanks everyone.
Well, I bit the $40.00 bullet and bought a new one.
Now, with a new starter, carb, and fuel line, if I can just get it to run more than 3 seconds........

that's the proper way to do it.....good job.....

seems you've eliminated the starter, fuel line and carb. so now, what else works? leaving the part that don't work as the part that needs replacein. sounds like diagnosis time to me. perhaps includeing the carb and fuel line....

As you can see by the pic, when the motor shuts off after about 2-3 seconds, gas seeps out from under the carb, no matter how much I tighten it.
Also, am I grounding the choke at the right spot?

Be certain you have a fuel inlet problem as opposed to carb. "puking" problem.

Either way, gas in the bilge "IS" a problem.:^

Put it back to OEM and then maybe go "through" carb.

That could be a Big part of the Problem with it Not wanting to Run more than 2 or 3 seconds.....

Torque on the Carb nuts is about 15/20ft.lbs........ It's Not Tighter is Better........
Something is Terribly Wrong there...........

Rubber hose between the pump and carburator is legal provider you follow USCG specifications listed here.

Ayuh,........... I Thought it was Legal when done Right.............

Yeah, but how many know what the right fittings, the right type hose is and the right type clamps are. They would still end up going to NAPA and buying some fuel line for a car, not the CG approved stuff that is expensive, would likely end up with barbed fitting for pushon hose (also commonly sold at auto parts stores)

See that clear yellow hose going into the side of the carb? Pull it off and see if there is any gas coming out of it when the engine dies.

Don, It's futile. You have to obey because you run a business- I think-:/

Todays rules say that you're responsible whether you saw the boat/engine or not. onversations are now evidence. Trust me, been there. Very scary in many parts of the USA.

That leaves me thinking, allot, about posting here-altogether..

Not exactly, It's not futile I can overcome the Borg, even if I can help one person out of 10 to do something correctly and safely, then it's a good week.
I also work there, I don't own it. But I try to use the proper methods of doing every job I do.
I also NEVER mention where I work or plug it for buisness or try to sell parts. I'm just another poster trying to give the best info possible. Some times it helps, Some times it doesn't

Sometimes it feels like this

This is an informational forum and good and accurate information should be what is presented. USGC approves the use of rubber hose. The man asked about using it and he should be told it is legal if done correctly, a metal line done incorrectly is also a hazard.

I Did NOT lie to him?

It's not legal to use a rubber hose, zip ties, and hose barbs.

I did not imply that you lied, and I never implied that any hose and zip ties were legal, I only lead him to where he could find the correct information and make his own decision based on it. You weren't the only one who said hose was not legal which implies that any type hose is illegal which is not the case.

OK, no more leaky carb.
There is no gas at all in that line when it dies.
I can keep the motor running when I rev the hell out of it, but then anytime I back-off on the throttle, it dies.
Should I try adjusting the carb? Or is there something else I should be looking at?
