Hey Guys- I have a 1992 Bayliner Capri with the 4.3 Merc. I used to have a middle window that swung open to pass to the bow. Now, notice I said used to have. A big wave and strong winds destroyed the window- not only did the glass shatter, but the aluminum frame came apart as well.

Are the windows pretty similar from boat to boat? How should I go about replacing it? Last, I have the pieces of the frame and nothing is broken, just all came apart. Can a window shop put the frame back together & put glass back in? Thanks.

Re: Replacing middle window

A good window shop will repair the frame and install new glass. That is where I would go.

You coud replace it with Lexan - tough, and expensive. Do a goggle search plexiglass vs. Lexan - see what yuo think.

Maybe- certainly worth a phone call or two. Another option might be to haul it all over to a place that does auto glass.

I'm just guessing- I'm sure others have actually had this done and can guide you better than I can.

I'm curious myself- Good luck!

(Edit: oops- I guess everyone was responding at the same time :) )

A glass shop should be able to make you up a piece of tempered glass.

Lowes sells lexan-that would be the cheapest $70 and they can cut - it is probaly square. the black rubber gasket just apply to the glass egdes- line up frame and press by hand or lightly tap into place with screw driver handle.- install screws.

if the gasket is trash just seal with urathane sealant- cut off exess before it sets or wait till cured.

a photo will help with exact fix.

you can do it!

couple issues I see here, Lexan would be preferable I believe however if your screws/holes that hold the frame together are no longer usable then your going to need to tig weld it and then your going to have to use glass, either way very repairable, Glass shop of the glass/lexan and a decent welding shop to repair the frame at worst, probably take a welder a 1/2 hour labor and it will be better then new!

Re: Replacing middle window

You guys have given me hope. I thought I'd have to buy something expensive from a boat shop.
