Hoping someone can help me out. I have a seized mercruiser 140, 1979 model. I found a 1994 mercruiser 3.0 lx engine for a very good price. What, if any modifications will i need to make to make this newer engine bolt up and work in my boat? I need to know what all i need to do before i make this purchase. Thanks!

I believe it is fully dressed. I am awaiting photos of it from the guy that is selling it.

Then you don't even know if it's the engine or the drive seized do you? Buy nothing until you check things out and know for sure what the problem is.

yes i do know it is the engine. I have the engine out already and have had it looked at. Why did you ask me that? My question was if i can replace my 1979 model with the 1994 3.0.

Very simple. I didn't know if you was sure or not, had no idea you had it out and apart. So I mentioned it so you wouldn't buy and engine to find out it wasn't the problem.

Sorry to bother you, won't happen again.

No Problem. I am just having a hard time finding information about this possible engine swap.

There are always "gotchas" whenever you starting changing and modifying from one vintage engine to another. It is hard to remember all of them. Having said that, it should be a fairly straightforward swap. You should be able to reuse any of your existing parts that may be different with the new engine.
