I have a 1986 arrow glass shark and I'm needing to replace the old ignition with a new one. Can anyone tell me where I can get a wiring diagram for it. I have no idea what wire goes to what, and I know that on a boat it can be tricky and costly if I do it wrong. So if someone can help me that would be great. Thanks in advance pepper.

Re: replacing old ignition for a new one

A 1986 Arrow Glass means nothing to us. What does mean something is whether this is an I/O, Inboard, or outboard powered boat. I/O and Inboards use a different switch than an outboard. Ignition switches have a letter next to each terminal. You take one wire off the old switch and transfer it to the new switch. Outboard switches usually have six terminals while I/O and Inboard engines use a three or four teminal. Outboards may or not have a push-to-choke feature while I/O and Inboards do not.

Sorry I'm new to this kinda of thing so I didn't know what to put it has a 90 horse merc out board. On the ignition I do know that you have to push it in before the motor will start. Hope that helps on the confusion, thanks for the help.

You need a standard six terminal OUTBOARD switch with the "push-to-choke" function. Get it right here on iBoats. Click the Marine Store button at the top of this page. Type "outboard ignition switch" in the SEARCH box and you will see a list of available switches. Remember -- 1) outboard, 2) six terminal, 3) push-to-choke. Less than $20 as I remember.

Once you get the switch, maybe this will help:

I am having the same problem, I am trying to do the same thing, I tried following the same ignition it did not work or I think I blew a fuse.. I have an extra prong on the ignition switch that was not on the opld 1. I do not know if I could just leave it alone..

Welcome to iboats!

It would be better if you started your own thread. Be sure to tell us the type and brand of motor you have.

It would also help to know if this switch is in your throttle and shift control or in the dash. Many of the aftermarket switches will not fit in the remote controls. If it is in the remote control, you will need to identify which control you have.
