Replacing OMC Nuts and Bolts

I am nearing re-assembling my outdrive and want to avoid a problem next time I remove the drive.

1. Is it important I use OEM Bolts for the Exhaust Housing Cover and Pivot Caps that have to be replaced because of corrosion.

2. What if any coating can I use on the above bolts to avoid or inhibit the massive corrosion I ran up against last year when I removed the drive. In particular the Exhaust Housing Cover and Pivot Caps.

I have used the brush on type gasket sealer on all my outdrive bolts and had no problems taking them back out.I read that in a OMC service manual to use the OMC gasket stuff but the Loctite aviation is the same thing.
I bought all new bolts and lock nuts at the hardware store,stainless of course..
