To replace the prop shaft... does it require removing the lower unit?

No Title

The Seloc repair manual isn't specific about how to just remove the prop shaft.

Yes. The shift shaft and the drive shaft must be removed before the prop shaft will come out.

Thanks Muc.

To remove the lower unit, is it necessary to remove the entire outdrive in order to separate the upper and lower unit?

Yes, if you don't there is a very good chance you will damage the shift linkage. I have no idea how good the seloc manual is. I would recommend following the factory manual. There are some special tools listed that are very nice to have. Those 2 snap rings can be a little difficult without a VERY good pliers.

Also be careful when pulling the shift carrier/forward gear carrier ----can't remember it's exact name ---- they like to stick in the case and can get damaged if you force it.

The cases need to be split OFF the back of the boat.
The shift shaft needs to be turned so the shaft can clear the upper case.

The pinion gear needs a special socket 311875 (e-bay)(if possible) to help remove it.
