replacing rear hatch on 1850 CC

The previous owner had already dug out the foam. But the hatch flexes when you step on it. I want to use it as a cooler. Was looking for a replacement hatch but can't find the size.

So not being one to give up I came up with a different approach. I found 15x20 x.5 (perfect LxW) polyethylene cutting boards. I was thinking of laminating 3 together to get the correct thickness.

Should be thick enough to walk on. If not I'll add aluminum ribs underneath.

Any other ideas that have worked?

My 1850 does not have that hatch behind the seat. You muct have an aftermarket opening back there?

I sure don't have that on my 88 1850 but you can use 3/4 starboard as I made rear hatches and you can jump up and down on that stuff, it is a little pricey though but very easy to work with

If only we had our West Marine. They closed ours this year. So all we have for boat stuff is bass pro and a couple boat shop parts counters. To use starboard I would have to mail order and I need 1.5 inches thick.

I found polycarbonate cutting boards that are a perfect fit for length and width. I'll just have to trim the corners and glue them together tomake the thickness.

Hi Brian,

I also have nothing like that hatch on my 89 1850. My model has the full transom and motor on a bracket, so there is a nice storage area in the full transom. That is where I mounted my Racor filter - inside the transom. It also holds two collapsible oars and a hand bilge pump. I guess I just have a wide open space under my deck at the same spot by the look of your placement. I could use that space!
