I have been having trouble with the trim switch in the shifter on my boat for the last year or so. I repowered in 2001, but didn't put new controls on as they were working ok. Now I am considering replacing the conrtols, and wanted to get some adivce;I have a single Mercruiser 350 Mag MPI Horizon with a bravo drive.

1. How involved is the replacement of the shifter/remote controls?

2. I assume that this can be done while the boat is in the water?

3. Any special tools required?

3. How much time should I expect to spend?

Thanks in advance for any assistance that you can provide.

Terry

Re: Replacing Remote controls

Why not replace the trim switch in the control.
I just replaced mine and it was much cheaper than new controls...unless you just want new ones. 36 bucks verses 280..

Re: Replacing Remote controls

I am not sure if the switch can be replaced. Its an original mercruiser control (1986) and then switch sits in the top of the handle which is plastic molded onto the metal tube lever. if I can just replace the switch I will, but I am not sure what that would involve either. Perhaps someone with an older Mercruiser would have some ideas. Thanks for the idea!

Gary,

It took a while, but I think I found the right diagram on a mercruiser parts site and it looks like the switch is still available for about $25 plus shipping. Thanks.
