I recently bought a 1996 Hydra Sports with a 90 hp Johnson of the same year. The outboard would not go into gear, neither forward nor reverse. I replaced the broken shift lever to shift arm link on the motor, but the shift lever (OMC part #0126471) in the OMC control box (center console) is broken off at the top. I have obtained a replacement shift lever. The shift cable is attached to the bottom of the lever, but I’m at a loss where the top of the lever is connected and what could have broken it off. Please provide some guidance as I have been working on Mercruisers as a novice for the past 20 years and I’ve not found any help through web searches. I have included photos to clarify this inquiry.
