I recently purchased a little 1966 Evinrude 6 HP from a friend and the first time I took it out, it ran, but when I tried to start it for the seoncd time that afternoon, the starter cord broke. It's the vertical starter with spiraled groove for the cord. Finding some instructions on the Internet on how to replace the cord, I attempted to turn the starter counter clockwise to build tension and attach the new cord. As I turn though, I'm feeling no tension. Seeing only 2 bolts holding the starter in place, I take it off only to find the spring has broken also. I now have a replacement spring but haven't a clue how to get the old broken one off the starter shaft and put the new one on. Advice on how to get this motor back in working order??
