Phill, it's right there in the installation instructions from boyeson. I've done it on every set I ever installed.

Re: Replacing stock reeds with Boyesens. Need to replace/resize jets. HELP!

Thanks guys.
I have this question posted elsewhere and someone made a good point. They said that we can find out definitively if the jets are air or fuel by looking at the 'elevation orifice chart'.
If the sizes get bigger with the higher elevation then it must be air jet (to allow more air in to
the mixture due to less air pressure from elevation).
If the sizes get smaller with the higher elevation then it must be a fuel jet (to allow less fuel in to compensate for the less air due to elevation).

So I had a look at my Clymer manual and here is the table: Photo Album - Imgur

Looks like the sizes are getting SMALLER, so it must mean it is a FUEL jet.
If this is the case, then I need to increase the size of the jets by 2 thousandths of an inch, according to the Boyesens instructions.

I have a spare set of jets from a different engine. Im going to grab them and give them a shot :)

OK, go with that and ignore the advice you have received in here to call the folks who actually can give you the 100% solution.
I just hope someone points out the obvious....that that chart lists high speed orifices.....not what you need to know.

It won't be me...I'm done....good luck.

eep!
Well, OK. Ill hold out.

Boyesen are working off EST and close at 4pm, so I wont be able to call them during my day here in Sydney. I have sent them an email and will wait for their reply. Hopefully will get something back in the next couple of days.

Thanks for your help.

Sorry....unnecessarily cranky. :)
But seriously, one call and you'll know....then there's no guessing.

Hey guys, sorry for not closing the loop on this thread. There were some other issues I needed to deal before I could look in to this.
Just to fill you in:

- The jets are indeed fuel jets
- I drilled mine out (using my precise drill bit set, putting the orifice in a old drill chuck [which I had removed from the drill] and a drill press)
- The engine is idling pretty well now while on the muffs, I am quite happy. But just to be sure I have ordered the actual size orifices that I need (#29 and #30). I dont want to take it out on the water until I install these).
- I am confident things will run well out on the water once I put in the proper orifices.

Once again, thanks to all for your continued help! Very much appreciated.

What drill set did you have that has .029" and .030"?

Hey Tim. I am in the office now so I cant take a picture for you. But it looks similar to this:

tip-cleaners-pin-vises-drill-sets.jpg

My one looks a little different and has many more bits (some of them smaller than #29 and #30). The end cap of that pen-looking thing can be removed and all the drill bits are stored in there. The device is marketed for orifice drilling, but I use it for cleaning out tiny holes etc and (I am an electronic buff) making holes in PCB's for soldering (when making my own boards) or drilling out holes in PCB's that already have solder in them.
Let me know if you want me to take a photo of my one for you and I can do so tonight :) Theyre handy little things.

But, that looks to be just a standard numbered-drill set.

Hopefully we are on the same page here...but if it is running OK, no worries....I guess.
If you used a #29 and a # 30 drill, you are nowhere near where you need to be.

There is no correlation between those drill numbers, and the OMC orifice numbers.

The orifice numbers specify the ID in thousands of an inch....i.e. a #29 orifice has an ID of 0.029".

The numbered drill sets are numbered sequentially, but the size increases as the numbers decrease.
A number 29 drill has a diameter of 0.136"...

That said, do you know the actual diameter of the drills you used?

Hey Tim. That's not the actual set I have. My set has more bits. The bits I have are too small to be numbered, so I use my digital calipers to measure them..... and, yes. I got the right measurements :) thanks for the concern.

All this is a moot point now as I got the actual #29 and #30 jets off eBay and they arrived today. Woo!
My final question is... the manual refers to port and s/board of the carby. Is that port if your looking at the engine from inside the boat or if you looking at the engine from the back of the boat outside? Thanks!

starboard side = the right hand side when facing the bow....port = left hand side when facing the bow...
