I'm replacing all the stringers and floor in a 20' fiberglass boat. the local boat repair shop told me I could repace the stringers in two or three sections along the entire length. My concern is that it won't be as strong as it needs to be. Also if this is acceptable should I re-enforce the joint with extra fiberglass?

Re: Replacing stringers in sections???

you can do them in sections provided you use a good finger joint or taper where the peices meet, and bond them well. thicker glass in certain areas makes hard spots, which are not all that great either, so do several thin layups that are progessivly larger, rather than one thick layer of roving if your going to beef it up, 2-3 feet of cardboard tube cut in half glassed to the sides of the stringers is a good trick where the joints meet
