Replacing the curved windshiels with a flat one

I would like some advice on replacing a curved plexiglass windshield with a flat glass windshield. My problem is how to adapt the curved bow to accept the flat windshild frame. I have a 1957 Sea King 14' fiberglass boat. Any ideas of liquid plastic or epoxy that I can use to fill in the 3 1/2 inch gap at the bottom of the windshild mount. I would really like to do a nice job since this was a huge chore to get seaworthy again. I know many of you have rebuilt or restored a boat or two. I would also like to put a windshield wiper on the new window. This is a project that looks much easier.

Thanks,
Ed

Hi Drewmitch44,

I have a 14' Sea King old fiberglass boat with a few scratches in the plexiglass windshield. I also live in WA and it rains a great deal during the winter. I would like to replace the windshield with a flat one for two reasons: 1, to be able to mount a windshild wiper and two to have a better canvas with side curtins and a back drop for those cold wet days on the Puget Sound crabbing. I hope this makes sense?

get a nice piece of 1 1/4 by 6" wood the length you need. scribe it to the hull, mount from underneath, then mount straight frame to this. you can either varnish or glass the wood. you actually could make the complete frame from wood and varnish it. it would be very vintage with the boat. take a look at the pictures in this thread.

Tashasdaddy,

Thank you for the pictures and advice. I think you get what I am trying to do. I like going out in the Puget Sound during the winter months when the water is cooler and the crab is fatter. Weather is usually raining so a good canvas and windshield wiper are a key to seeing and staying dry.
