Replacing Thermostats

I have twin 454's in a 1985 Harbormaster, the thermostats that are in the boat are rated for 140 degrees. The engines are water cooled and we are in fresh water, not salt. Is there a reason I cant run a higher rated thermostat? Wouldn't it be more fuel efficient to use at least a 160 degree rated?

the FWC kit I got specifically replaced the thermostat with a new one that's set at 160
.

the 160 degrees should work fine...

where did you get your FWC kit, and what did you pay?

I am considering this for my 2004 6.2 L Merc as I am
moving to salt water...

any tips?

shipping was 31 dollars and arrived in 2 days from bellingham (drop shipped)

it's a san juan model... instructions could be better but was easy enough to be understood...

needed an angle grinder to cut off a bracket that was in the way... and about 3 trips to schucks to buy the right tools...

Good prices doc. I paid over 500$ ten years ago and that was direct from San Juan. (motor only)
