Great boat, engine from hell.
I have a 1990 Maxum 21 cuddy with a Force 120 L-drive and am at my wits end. Any suggestions on what would be a good replacement power plant ? Should I also trash the outdrive ?
I would like to spend my summers on the boat in the water, not in my driveway with tools in hand.....sigh

TIA

No other powerplant will work with that drive unit.

And getting a conventional i/o to fit in that boat will mean major reconstruction.

Another option, tear it out, rebuild the transom, hang an outboard on it.

I other words, there is no easy or pretty solution.

Re: Replacing this POS

Thanks for the replies. I was afraid I would get those answers.
Oh well, live and learn (the hard way).
I did talk to several members of a local yact club today and they all use the same 60 year old mechanic. They recommended I take it to him as they felt he was very good and priced reasonable. I dropped it off this afternoon, we'll see how it goes with this now 3rd mechanic.

Sure wish I was on the water, what a beautiful day today.

Thanks - Shorty

Sometimes that is a good way to find a good mechanic.I'm a little surprised he will work on it.Good Luck.
