Well. Looks like the seacast won't arrive till late next week. They are out of stock of the primer for the aluminum and are expecting it to be in this week sometime. In the meantime I'm going to fab up the dam in the bottom of the transom and sand the inside of the aluminum, along with some other miscellaneous things.

I also have a question about replacing a rotten transom. I have the old wood out. It's an inch and a half thick. I have been told to only use marine wood. I have been told to use pressure treated wood and I have been told to use a hard plywood such as maple and to treat it myself. It seems impossible to find marine wood, whatever that is. What is the best way to go.

Thanks

Dave

Have you called them? maybe they can tell you something to substitute their primer with.

I came home yesterday to 3 boxes on my front porch. The Seacast finally arrived! With any luck I'll be pouring it in a few days.

You say you didn't feel any flex in the transom. In that case, what made you look for a rotted transom? And no, it is not common for a 10 year old boat to need a new one. My 33 year old Lund still has a good transom as far as we know. Something must have leaked, getting your transom wet from the inside. Before you pour, you may want to look into finding where the water came from.
