Replacing Water intake screen

I'm replacing the water pump and want to replace the intake screens as well (they are broke out). I have the pump off and I'm not seeing anyway of taking out the old screens without taking the drive shaft out.
I hope I'm wrong.

The screen is located in a pocket below the waterpump, remove the pump and plate,you will see it down in there. The new screen simply drops in there. then take a long screw driver and push it down, you will hear it click into place.
