replacing water pump

i am in the process of replacing the water pump on my motor. i have a few questions abou this process.<br /><br />1. Which way should the imepllar blades go in the housing?<br /><br />2. is there any other sealent that i can pick up at a parts store to use on the o-ring, rather than drive 30 miles to my dealer?<br /><br />3. i have heard that you can put somt tipe of lubricat on the impellar to make it go in the housing easier. Is this true? if so what lubricant should i use?<br /><br />4. is the only gasket i have to seal b/w the housing and the bottom plate?<br /><br />5. last but not least. I have a factory manual on the way. Should i wait to do this project until i get the manual or is it easy enough to do without one?<br /><br />thanks for any advice. by the way the motor is a johnson GT 100 1990

I seat the impellor on the driveshaft and put the cup/housing down the shaft. While pressing down on the cup, turn the driveshaft clockwise and the housing will go down over the impellor and the vanes will be facing the right direction.

Regarding...<br /><br />#1 When you pull the old impeller it will be obvious which way the blades need to go. <br /><br />#2 I've heard some people don't use any sealer on the housing, so I'm not too sure how important it is. Nonetheless, I always seal the housing. I've used good old fashioned Permatex Indian Head shellac a few times in the past. Worked for me...<br /><br />#4 Yes<br /><br />#5 It's not too hard without a manual. Just as long as you disconnect the shift linkage and are able to properly locate all the bolts that hold the l/u to the exhaust housing.

Be certain you don't adjust the shifting linkage length by spinning it, found out the hard way.
