My boat is beginning to show some rot along the floor beneath the carpet in the driver's compartment area. It still looks good, but the floor kind of sags here and in one other spot. The fishing decks are still solid and in good shape.
My question is this:

How hard is it to replace the lower deck of the boat and re-carpet it?

If I'm going to do it or have it done, would it just be smarter to replace all the wood and carpet throughout the boat?

If I had someone else do it, would anyone have any idea as to a price range to expect?

Any idea what kind of a place would do this type of work?

The boat is an '89 Bass Tracker Pro 17.

Re: Replacing wood decks & carpeting.

In an aluminum boat such as your Bass Tracker, the floor is usually fastened to the support structure with rivets and/or screws. I don't know how big your lower deck is, and what is included (dash, seats, storage compartments), but all of these should also be fastened with rivets/screws, so it really depends on how much you're willing to do, and how handy you are with basic tools (drill, saw, screwdriver).

Chances are your lower deck has seen more water, and probably gets a harder workout from use than the casting decks, so I'd only replace the lower. But I don't know what's involved in removal of that deck (like if the uppers have to be removed to get to the lower).

Maybe the guys over at Bass Boat Carpets can help.
Here's a link to a detailed article on the carpet process.

Finally, DJ did a similar boat a few months back. Here's a link to that discussion.
