Hi Folks, I have a 4.3 (205hp)mercruiser 1988 with alpha 1 outdrive. I am thinking about repowering this small cruiser (23.5 aft) with its original configuration of a 5.7 merc. I would like to do this in stages. I would like to get a new alpha for a 5.7 and bolt on to my existing 4.3 package. I can then wait for the 4.3 to die (its been a real workhorse). Are the splines the same? I know the gear ratio wont be correct, but I could play with some props to get me where I need to be... Im thinking if the geometry could work I might sneak another season from my 4.3.... My current outdrive has the slightest (i do mean slightest) wobble in its output shaft.. and it translates into a minor (i do mean minor) but irritating vibration in the ride. Any thoughts??
