Repowering, Are Tilt/trims interchangeable? Will transome holes line up?

I've got a Mercury Inline 6 115 with power tilt/trim and would like to hang a replacement motor on the transom. Can I reuse the existing Tilt/Trim with a Force 120 engine?

If not, are the holes in the transom standard or will I need to fill the existing holes and drill new ones for the replacement motor?

I don't know about tilt/trim, but the holes will work for you.

The answer to both is likely no. What years are the motors?

If the inline 6 Merc has the external trim pump in the boat, the holes are non-standard, and the PTT is custom to those motors.

i bought a boat that had a 115 merc on it (older model).the mounting holes did not match up with my newer rude 90.i just bought wooden dowels of the correct diameter and filled the holes and started all over.if it had of been a newer merc i think it would of matched but the older mercs had a narrower mounting surface.simply measure the 2 motors you will have your answer soon enough.something wrong with the merc?in my humble opion that motor is 10x the motor of the force.

The Merc is a 1986, the Force is a 1991.

Yes, there is a problem with the Merc. The #5 rod is broken and the wrist pin came thru the crankcase cover.

But, I haven't given up on it yet....I'm starting the teardown tonight and hopefully the crank and other stuff will be ok in there. I've located a replacement rod just in case I can move forward with a rebuild.

And, I lined up a welder to repair the cover; I saved the two pieces from the hole.

I love my inline and saving it is my first choice.
