repowering question

Hi everyone. I have a 75 Sea Ray 220SRV. I'm thinking of repowering with all new engine and outdrive. Original engine is Mercruiser 888 with pre Alpha I outdrive. Any reccomendations on all new replacement? And who or where has the best price and service? I'd like to have more horsepower than the 188hp I have now. It barely moves my heavy old Sea Ray more than 20mph.
Thanks!

Re: repowering question

A Brand New Merc 350 with MPI,+ a New Alpha drive would make a Great Package,.......

Price,+ Service will Probably be around 4 or 6 Times the Value of your Boat though..........
Maybe More.......
And that's If your 1975 Searay is a Super Cherry hull.........

Re: repowering question

I did mine with a 97 Bravo + 454. I got a Super deal.....454/gimbal/Bravo III for $5K plus all harnesses, cables etc. Engine + drive has about 120 hrs on it since new (and shows it)

I found it on Craigslist. The guy had a 98 Bayliner that had a 150' tree fall on it. (didn't hurt the engine/drive)

Look around. There's always a complete eng/drive for sale somewhere.

I would stick with Mercruiser. At any one time there's usually 1000-1500 Mercruiser items for sale on ebay. There's usually only about 1/3 of that for Volvo. (Nothing wrong with Volvo though!)

Anything new will cost you from $13,000-20,000 so you'll have to REALLY like that boat!!!

Otherwise.....cut your losses and go shopping for a new/newer boat!

Cheers,

Rick
