Hello to the forum...I have spent the last couple days browsing the forum for info. Great resource I must say especially with lack of old-school brick and mortar repair shops in this day and age.

I just purchased an older boat package to take the kids fishing with. It has a very clean 1981 Merc 80 that has only seen fresh water and recently recieved a service which included replacing the prop, stator, a coil, and a carb clean. All cylinders check out between 135-142 psi. I also purchased some nice condition donor parts to install the original dual cylinder style power tilt/trim with an onboard pump. Seems straight forward being most of my life has been spent working out of a tool box.

I was going to take my time this winter and prep everything for spring enjoyment with the kids. I would love to hear from some enthusiest about anything quirky or relevent with the older mercury 80hp that I should direct my attention toward, either now or as time goes on. I know parts are getting sparse, should I grab a few specific things for down the road?

I also need some different controls. Adding the PTT it seems it would be nice to have everything integrated into the controller. The boats key switch and carb choke are currently operated from a dash location. Are there some controls people regard highly that are worth the retrofit? This is one item I have struggled to find any clear info as far as "names" or "years applicable" etc. Naturally I am searching the auction sites and often they do not list much application info.

Thanks in advance for everyones time...sorry for the length.
