Put together nice running 10012. Picked it up for $25 less a lower unit. Couple trips to my favorite junk yard for a lower unit, a ported cover plate and a fuel pump; converting it to a single line tank. Rebuilt the LU and water pump, pulled the flywheel, inspected everything and cleaned the points. Put everything together added a little ugly paint to the LU and ....

... 3rd pull she fired up and runs great in the tank.

Next step is put it behind the 1953 DuraCraft 14'er and see how she pushes the boat.

Truly boating on a budget, this Rude cost less then 20 gallons of gas ($3.79/gal) all together.:whoo:

I have some great deals in my neck of the woods also. I have found a 56 30hp, a 55 25 hp, 2- 57 35hps and a 58 fat 50 all laying around in peoples barns begging me to rescue them. I didn't pay more than $125 for any of them and some were in good running shape. Love those old big twins!

Great deals can be found almost anywhere, sometimes it's relative to the area. I walk away from lots of stuff that the people selling think it's a great deal. It may be a great deal for them.

We do seem to have an good supply of nice old JohnnyRudes, and being salt free makes it all the better.

One of the best model years 10hp, in my oppinion. Still has the 5 bolt lower unit, which is tougher than nails when only 10 horses are turning it. That lower unit was used on motors up to 25hp and a lot more parts availability than the lowers used on '58 and later. I have a nice looking old '55 QD, which is mechanically the same.
