Hello,
I'm researching classic fiberglass boat construction techniques using a fiberglass inner liner or hull liner that serves as both sole/deck and longitudinal/stringer structural element. One example of this is SeaBird boats from the early '70's, with their innerliner system. Does anyone know of other boats that were made with this kind of technique, from the early 1990's or earlier? I'd be particularly interested in documentation from the time period.

I'd greatly appreciate if you could email me with any leads you might have. Thanks!

Lowell
lowellmead(at)yahoo.com

Re: Researching hull liner construction techniques

A friend of mine bought a new 24 NOVA when they first came out. It had twin IOs...I think they were 350CI. The fiberglass bottom immediately fractured and they found the grid system broken to pieces. He sued, they paid. I talked to the local insurance agent while the boat was in the yard...he said the industry was aware of NOVA bottom problems and my friends boat wasn't the only with a bad bottom. During that era, here in Florida anyway, drug runners were using boats like this to haul loads offshore. It beat the boats up.
