I'm considering bidding on a 35hp elect/long/remote Johnson . The only info the seller has posted is : Model RXL-13.

I can't find it on any web site with that model #.

Right now the price is really low, which will probably change but this is a complete OB system which is what I am looking for.

I e-mailed the seller 2 days ago, but no reply yet.

All I need to know is the year. Any ideas

That's a 1965 long shaft 33hp. Not a 35. It was the first year for the 33 hp Johnson. They're good engines, and will perform just about the same as the 35s from the late 1950s.

Parts are readily available, since they're shared by a bunch of the big twins, clear up into the 1970s.

Check compression before buying. Both cylinders should be nearly the same, with a minimum of about 90 psi.

The only possible flaw is in the lower unit. If they've been mishandled by shifting too slowly, the clutch dogs can be worn, which can cause the outboard to jump out of gear. There are lots of good donor lower units around for these, though, so it's not a death sentence.

The closest I found was an RXE-13 which is a 1965 33hp motor. Maybe he just misread the plate thinking the E was an L.

Edit: I have to quit typing so slow, everyone keeps beating me to the point.

sheboyganjohn, better to be slow and accurate about your info, than fast and inaccurate. eveyone is correct on this one.
