I want to use poly resin on boat stringers because it is cheaper than epoxy is this ok and can i use both i have heard they don't adhere well to each other thanks

Go with one or the other, don't mix and match.<br /><br />Both will work fine for what you are going to do, some people like epoxy, some people like polyester. Look at your boat, it's the wood that failed, not the polyester, so more strength isn't what you're looking for. Epoxy is stronger and is a better glue, but it won't stop rot, if water gets to the wood it will rot no matter whats used.

I Second ondarvr motion.<br /><br />There is no need for epoxy unless you are building a fully wooden boat. Save your money and get some polyester or vinylester resin.

I've used both. Polyester adheres very well. The key is to clean and wipe your surfaces down with acetone and let it dry before laying down fiberglass.<br /><br />I would definitely use polyester for your project.

the vinyl ester has better bonding properties than the polyester, but neither come close to epoxy. if you cant afford the epoxy, then go with the vinyl.
