Resister wire?

My Mercruiser 1974 165hp inline 6 has a replacement wire to coil from switch. Is this supposed to be a resister wire?

There is no way we can answer that. Measure the wire with an ohm meter,

No resistance now, or very little. just wondered if mercruiser used resister wire in old ignition wires.

Yes, they did use a resistor wire on your model.

Your engine should have a resistance wire, but that resistance is very low (1.8 to 2Ω) and difficult to measure directly. You need a high quality meter, like a Fluke, or use a known resistance in series and and ammeter and calculate the resistance...
