Well Good People,
I have taken on the challenge of doing a total restoration of a 1980 Bomber Commander. I am really new to the site, but I have read entire threads of several other restoration projects. All of you have given me the courage to begin what I thoght to be a ridiculously impossible task. I also think that I enjoy working on boats more riding in them. Therapy I suppose.
I chose this project because I liked the lines of the boat and I prefer I/O. I have seen other Bombers that really turn heads as they pass, but for now ADABO is not one of those. I know that I will have to remove the top cap to replace the deck and transom. There is no motor or upholstery. The keel has been scarred and the repair is butt ugly. Other than that the boat is perfect!!!!
The plan is divided into three phases:
Remove the top cap
Replace the transom
Inspect / replace stringers
Replace the decking
Repair hull and cap as neccessary
Prepare Mercruiser140 for installation
Prepare for installation of new electronics
Inspect / Repair all systems
Prepare boat for refinishing (paint probably because I want to change color scheme)
Install interior
Splash finished boat
I have decided to use epoxy resins, but unsure about the cloth mat to use. I have zero experience in fiberglassing, but I will have a graious plenty soon. The weather is beginning to change here so I will have to plan to take this indoors at some point after the majority of the grinding is done. Although this is not the first project of mine it is certainly the most ambitious. I know that I will have several questions in the near future, so I will start by thanking you now.
Pictures will be posted after I find the majic button. Thanks Good People,
