Re: Restoration of my 1965 Glasspar Avolon

I am hanging in there. I did a sleep study last week and that royally stunk.

As for the motor no complaints here, I was really fortunate in getting a great deal on it. Now I have been doing some research on the bro unit and JB gives a complete different perspective and look at dealing with any issues. He also goes into complete detail on part numbers to rebuild my unit instead of buying a new one. So I would like to get some thought on that.

I am still looking on craigslist for a sewing machine.

Need to pick up new cartridges before doing anymore grinding on fiberglass.

Re: Restoration of my 1965 Glasspar Avolon

Today is a day I am claiming a success as I finished the last and final coat of Safire Blue on the side of the hull with success. I was able to take up all of the painters tape and here are the results before I go through a series of wet sanding and buffing for the final product look. I am first going to allow the paint to cure for atleast two weeks before going through those steps just so I can be comfortible moving forward. The last step is to add the grey metalic sparkle stripe to seperate the Safire Blue from the white!

Yeah, now THAT looks like a PAINT JOB! EXCELLENT!!!!!! Little trick I learned is to spray it down with some ICE Water. Helps the curing process. Not sure why but it DOES work.

I'm just sayin...:D

I cant believ eit . I wrote you a killer right up about how and why shock therapy does what it does to paint and my stupid computer froze up. This thing was super long and had awesome detail and explination on paint and how it works. I am not about to write it again sorry. But I thought I would just share some before and after photos of some of my work on my friends car Tom. He is an outstanding painter and bugged me for a year to reserve a spot for me to detail his car.

Enjoy the before and after pics.

I will show you how the paint looks ten feet away, and what the paint looks like under halogins.

These few pics are before the makeover and him spending 8 hours of his own detail work before a car show that evening.

Looks Great right?

Ok, so now you have seen some damage of what I can see from 5 feet away with my naked eye and sticks out like a sore thumb. Now here are some after pics.

Ok a couple more pics that I like of his car. Oh, and he one the car show that night and people thought the car had a pump with water comming off the car the entire night!

Look at the dust particles that only after 5 minutes clinged to the paint. Ofcourse Tom had two do a wipe down at the Show before entering it in. Needless to say he was terrified to touch the car!

WOW!!!
What did you use to buff it out? That really does look "WET"

But it IS automotive paint, and You ARE using Marine paint and there IS a BIG difference so take note and be careful when you are sanding a buffing on your final.

I'm just sayin...:D

Without getting into any great detail on what I first wrote to you but was all gone when my awesome computer froze up on me. Do you not remember the pics of just the bottom of the hull? I think they are on the third page! I had sanded and buffed the entire bottom and it is sooo buttery smooth.

Gel coat is just a little bit different in my approach in detailing. I have done many of my friends boats as well as planes, "yes these people are wealthy," from time to time and principles are still the same when you look at it from a moliculer level and how light passes off the fibers of the substance the light reflects off of!

Have a great day my friend!

Yeah I do remember now. Well all I can say is you definitely know how to bring out the shine. Wish I was closer so I could get some tutoring.

I'm just sayin...:D
