Hi Guys,

This is my first post here and firstly I would like to thank everyone who has posted in the past. There is a huge amount of knowlege here that has helped me get this far. I have never done a project like this before and am currently at a point where the transom and floor have been removed.

I would like to ask some hep in identifying this boat. I have put all my photos on http://s1080.photobucket.com/albums/j327/adamfeil/

The hull looks like a bellboy but I have only ever seen one other pic online from a seller in Queensland who's advertiement said it was a 1966 Bellboy.

Has anyone seen this boat before and tell me if the seller was correct?

Many thanks in advance.

PS. If anyone sees anything in the photos (apart from the finger damage) that I am doing wrong please let me know. Cheers

Re: Restoration Project.

That was an interesting trailer to say the least...nice job getting it back to par. How well does it pull? As far as your boat work so far only thing I see is your working on top of the trailer which is fine...but add more support during rebuild to keep your hull from flexing...I did not at first and it took me some time even after building my cradle for it to finally get it reset to where I know my cap will go back on...hindsight...go figure right! Love the boat, looking forward to seeing the progress.

There is indeed a tiller handle on the outboard. A little ceased up but i was pleasantly surprised that is actually fired up after a few pull starts. Its a 1985 evinride 30hp 2 stroke.

As soon as the floor and box seats came out i started to notice the hull flexing. Going to grab some scrap wood and make some supports to hold the shape. Probably looking at at least another year of work so definately worth it.

She is rather cool...but a 35 seems a bit small for that boat, but on the other hand I don't know the length? Hard to tell that from the pictures.

Looks like a fun project though. Good luck with her.

Re: Restoration Project.

Its only 4.2m or 14.5 feet. I think the 30hp might be a bit underpowered for it but am hoping that with a good tune and the fact that it is two-stroke (more power???) I will get away with it at least until I can afford a repower.

The cabin was bolted on so I took it off to get access to the section under it for repainting. After a lot of measuring I worked out the the deck space on to stand in is only 1 square metre. Decided I needed more so cut the cabin down by about half.

It was only after doing this that I found out that this might be a bellboy, and maybe a bit of a classic?? Now I am in two minds about whether I want the extra deck space or if I should put the cabin back together and reinforce it to bring the boat back to original.

That's a long way off at the moment (its taken me almost a year to get to removing the floor to get to the stringers) so I guess the decision will need to be made when the cabin goes back on.

I LOVE the shape of this boat and would really like to know if it is actually a bellboy. Skagit boats seem to have very similar hull shapes but all the other bellboys and skagits i have seen have had big batman wings hanging off the back . Still stumped...

Re: Restoration Project.

super cool little boat. It seems like the dory design is much more popular in Britain and Australia than here in the states, but I'm not sure why. I've toyed with the idea of converting my little 14' tinny to a similar set up, but I haven't found a good design. Thanks again for the post.

Indeed it would seem that way. Thus making it less likely to be a Bell Boy. I'd stick with your modification plan if that's what you want to do.
