I have an opportunity to purchase a 1986 18' Boston Whaler Outrage (for $1,000). I am somewhat handy but very new to the boat world. The boat does not seem in bad shape but I have no idea what the cost or effort would be to re-gelcoat a boat like this. I do have pictures however:
I don't mind and actualy look forward to working on this boat some...not sure I have the patience for gelcoat however, wondering what something like this would cost for little fiberglass repair and complete gelcoat? Would be a very nice boat -- and it is somewhat of a classic---want it for pleasure boating and fishing the bay, but small enough so I can move it in and out of some fresh water lakes as well.
What would it cost to gelcoat this entire boat (pay someone and DIY)?
I assume the rest of it (except perhaps the molding) would be straight forward but I have a lot of homework to do...what should I be looking for?
Please advise, bhuck
- The teak door for the two storage areas are rotted and gone.
- Although many of these had reak gunwale caps this one is all fiberglass
- Many chips and scraps with exposed fiberglass around transom
- Missing rubber molding all around
- Needs new
