This is my first project. I have already completed a lot of work on this boat.
I replaced the floor and carpet, put in new vinyl and I am learning as I go.
My question is do'es this boat need a pump to pump out the water? The reason while I am asking is because I was on a boat recently and they kept turning on a pump to pump out the water or it would get waited down. It might be a dump question but I am very new when it comes to boats.

It's called a "bilge pump", and I think it's a good idea for all boats to have one.

There are lots else to learn before you go out that first time, like right-of-way, launching etiquette, emergency preparedness, and marine laws (PFD's, etc).

Iboats is a good place to learn. Use the search function and you'll find other posts of people getting started like you (and me).

Oh, and if you have an inboard, make sure you use that blower for a few minutes before you fire up the engine - gas fumes trapped in your engine cover could explode.

There are boating courses online, too, and lots of other resources out there.

You'll want to find a compact bilge pump as the bilge in those boats is relatively small. I've got a 17ft glastron I'm working on, and you can see in the pictures in my link of how large the bilge is ( it's the half circular depression by the transom ( what the motor bolts to ) ).

I'll second that this is a great site for learning and finding resources. Bounce an idea off the boards and you are sure to get a few different responses.

What a great forum, you guys are great and I really appreciate all your comments. Now do'es the pump just sit in the well and can you run the pump while you are moveing? I will also have alot more questions and pictures so thanks again.

You can get a bilge that operates automatically if you want to pay a little more for it. I wouldn't run the pump all the time as you'll just burn out the motor and probably destroy the impeller that moves the water. If you have to run it all the time, then you've got bigger problems with your boat than a bilge pump.
