Re: Restoring a sunbird?

Where are you guys? no replies for a few days, I feel unloved. Anyway, another question, I dont want to buy my seats just yet, but I want to lay down the floor this weekend. Any advice on how to know where to drill the holes for the seat posts without actually buying seats yet? I know what seats I want, just dont have the $$ right at the moment.

Assuming you are going to use pedestal seats. Go to your local scrap yard and pick up a couple of 1/4" aluminium plate rems. +/- 12"x12" should be big enough. Locate where about you want your seats to be. Center the rems on that position. (watch for stringer clearance) Epoxy or 3M5200 them to the inner side of your floor. Mark that position on the outside also. Then when you get your bases lay them out, drill and tap through the alum plate and mount. Use 5200 on your screws and in the holes you drilled. You will have good support in relation to screwing into just wood flooring.
