Maybe this has been discussed before, but I stumbled across this method online and was shocked with the results. I had a couple old boat cleats and some odds and ends that were pretty tarnished. I read online that if you wet a piece of aluminum foil and polish the chrome plate with you can restore the shine and luster. I tried it and polished up a couple of items to a very respectable state. It does not polish out the existing scratches or pitting, but it doesn't scratch the surface either and their is some type of chemical reaction going on that absolutely helps the process. I hardly had to press at all.
