July 2nd I will be taking the boat to Old Hickory Lake to twofoot and drakes creek for the fireworks show on the 3rd and back to Downtown Nashville on the 4th.

Let me know if you ever come to Chattanooga. We will meet you at Ross's landing. The riverbend fireworks are awesome if you guys ever make the trip. We are going down in the runabout to watch them this year, but there will be many yachts moored to watch them as well. Also riverbend usually faces a big BIG screen toward the water so the boaters can watch the acts on stage. I would love to see the pearl there!

how to work on my paint,,,
I have to get my boat ready to put in a marina and that means some bad paint needs touched up. hanging a eleven foot to the water I had to come up with something. I took some scrap steel and made these hanging scaffolding, they work very well. I get to do twenty feet at a time. I just sitting here on the river bank doing my best, there are no boat yards within six hundred miles that can pull my boat, so I have to make do with I have. In a few years I will have the whole boat painted but for now I have to fry some other fish. In this photo you are looking at about ninety feet of the boat.

This week update, weather was great so I spent most of my time outside. I did do a bit in my galley. I put in a hidden box under the counter and I wired the island with five double plugs on four different circuits. Maybe a bit over kill but I feel I could need it. I have keep in mind dishwasher, microwave, and a garbage disposal. in the insland

I already had these two router tables, I got another one off craigslist this weekend, tried to get it inside and we had to take it all the way apart and put back together inside kinda kicked our ***. It will take me some time to make this many cabinets/doors so I need them there for a while. I did get my bar copper sink mounted today.

i just went over the entire blog. mannn that is alot of work.

i have been trying to calculate the cost, and i just have no idea.

i must really comment on your dedication......you were even working on christmas day....to keep going on the same project 12 hours a day with no days off for years is quite an achievement.....

You would know about a lot of work. I was about your age when I did my 1 of 6 boats, When you started your boat I had just started #5 my last was a sixty two foot boat woody. She was never ending work being a wood yacht. I finished her and sold her.

Now the cost. Is not as bad as it seams. I have been doing this a long time and still learn everyday, but I do know how to get things cheep. Like my Garmin 5212, I have $400.00 in it and it sells for $3200. Appliances and the five marine air units I had. Now all the labor, you just have to know how to find guys that will work for free, not that hard. Ok not really free I may give them $15-20 a day. They can leave at anytime, but Bill has been here over two years and Tim most of a year. Sometimes I help guys get off drugs and put a tool in there hand. They love it and if they don't they can say Capt. Mike I have to go. Truth is they just walk off without telling anyone, that's ok to.

I think after this long it just becomes a lifestyle not work. My son goes out and makes the money while I stay here and
work on the boat. I have a girlfriend that comes over a 3-4 days a week and gets in my way lol She does help me clean the cabins ad work area. She tries to convince me there is more to life then boats, She wrong Jesus spent a big part of his life on a boat.
Truth is as I have gotten older my work day is seeing more 10 hour then 12 hour days. I still get in a lot of 12 hours days working.


Never be to prideful to walk away and realize the best thing I learned is what not to do next time.
Adding more spice dose not always make it better.

Pretty amazing boat and philosophy. Has any local (or national) media ever approached you about doing a story on you and Lost Pearl? Seems to me like your life might make a great documentary.

please keep posting to the blog....as i will be following.

i have done thirty footers that have come back up from the deep...

every switch, wire, cabinet, appliance, air cond unit.......so i have a LITTLE idea.....and by little, i mean small compared to the scope of the systems that are on your ship.

i must admit.....i was a little confused when you said you only had a 7.5 gal hot water tank......and had a 2.5 as back up. (winter use) you mentioned you like a fast re heat.
is that it for the whole ship? i would have thought it a bit small........i had a 10 gal on a 43 footer i lived on.

as well....the capacity is 8 persons max???? can you please explain the laws regarding that?...i just don't get it.....i thought you could cram 50 people over night on a ship that size.

as far as cheap parts......campion boats are manufactured right down the street from my shop......in the back room, they have out of production parts. ( parts that they no longer use that line)...... in this back room..... we found a brand new air conditioner for 400 bux.....(the manufacture wanted 700 just to replace our fan motor) a new in the box ice maker for 250.
my buddy bought 15 rolls of marine wire for 5 bux each roll....(i think they are 500 feet rolls) deck hardware is almost give-away priced....(a buck for a pop up cleat)
see if there is a manufacturer in your area that has the same type set-up.

on a side note mike,,,,,i really hope to be in your shoes in a few years...just gotta find the right candidate and the space to do her.

Yesterday I worked on the island, today I got the upper cabinet installed but I haven't made the doors yet. One day at a time. The cabinets cover the window just a little but there is still room to clean the window.
