So I think I caught the source of my antifreeze leak, seems the last fella that did the engine rebuild did not put any silicone around the water passages in the intake gaskets, there was a slight leak into the intake which a new set of FelPro gaskets took care of. My question...as I had to pull the distributor to swap these gaskets, after I reinstalled it, it went back in where I had marked it prior to removal. Once I fired it up (a very hard start), I found the timing was now at 1 BTDC and I know for a fact it was at 8BTDC prior to removing the distr. Does this seem normal for it to move this much? I am sure it is back in correctly, if not the timing would be out by about 30' (I'm guessing there is about 12 teeth on the drive input).
Once reset to 8' the engine was purring like a kitten, just in time to run in the gaskets (45 mins), change oil and winterize...now just to wait until next April.
