Retiring place near a lake...?

Hi guys,<br />I stumbled at a site, and there it is in the big country of Texas, there's also a River called the COLORADO RIVER. <br />I understand it's head water is not from the state of Colorado-as the other one who runs through the Grand Canyon-but from within the sate of Texas, and it also have few systems of man made dams along it's journey to the Gulf. As the result, few large lakes formed along it's path, I guess they are known to be called The "HIGLAND LAKES"? <br />"Now, what about it?" you may ask.<br /> Well, I am just dreaming around, maybe this could be a good place to retire in, good friendly people-Southwest folks-, good weather(?), and many lakes nearby to enjoy your hobby. <br />Does anybody else have more interesting info about housing, boating, fishing etc. in this area?<br />Thanks for your inputs!

I think Texas is the place for Californians to retire, the weather is fine and the folks will like you and be friendly.

don't know 'bout Texas but I seen a property for sale at cbtulsa.com mls#605347 on (Heyburn) a lake near Tulsa, OK, dear, wild turkey, fishing. just a thought

Colorado runs from west Tx. plains area to the gulf of Mexico. It has many man made lakes on it (most arent constant level till you get to Austin area) Fishing is for bass, crappie, catfish,white bass,Hybrid stripers and some walleye in a couple of the lakes.Land prices are on the definate rise the last few years, but will varry with the area of the state you choose. Climate is mild in the winter to Hot in the summer. As I said befour the texas parks and wildlife dept website will give you more Imfo on the highland lakes. As will some of the realators sites on land prices and housing.<br /> When you mention Big Country that tells me your talking about my area of the state, probably the Buckhanan Dam, OH Ivie reservoir of EV Spense Reservoir areas.<br /> The colarado runs Probably 800 miles across TX. so its a large area.

Yes, I am talking about those lakes from Buchanan at the North West to Lake Travis near Austin. These chains of lakes really resemble those along the other Colorado River that were formed by series of Dams that made the Powell, Mead, Mojave and Havasu Lakes into existence. As you know, these lakes provide a very important function for flood control, water supply as well as water sports and fishing...etc.<br />The other benefit of course, people come and inhabit the area surrounding those lakes, thus providing benefit to the people as well as to the governments. Sorry, I better shut up now...<br /><br />I heard that Stripers are in Lake Buchanan, wonder don't they also present at the other lower lakes? <br /><br />Back to my dream...

Stripers in all of them, so far as I know, TPWD ought to have better answers on that than me.<br /> Buckhanan has been there longer , lots of prety country around it. I havent fished any of the lower highland lakes (shame on me)
