Just got a '91 Johnson 9.9 w/electric start and a tiller handle, no owner's manuel. It runs fine. I just want to know how to rev the engine when its in neutral. I can't throttle up when its in "Neutral". The throttle won't turn out of the "Start" position until I put it in either "Forward" or "Reverse". I would like to rev it a little while its in "Neutral" to warm it up at the dock before putting it in gear. Is there a button I need to push or something else I need to engage or disengage?

no, it is only suppose to rev that high in neutral, there is a throttle lock out. keeps the engine from becoming a runaway, you cannot shut down.

Revving a 2 stroke with no load on it is a very dumb thing to do, MrM. They run away very easily and can explode before you know what is happening.

That is why OMC put the throttle block in there.
