I'm working through fixing up all the bits that don't work on my boat. After re-connecting the power to the voltage gauge and rev counter in the dash the voltmeter now works. But the input for the rev counter is not connected (not sure if it ever has been connected to this engine). It's a "smiths" rev counter, and needs a connection to the ignition circuit (I'm guessing like a car unit to the LT on the coil?). Can anyone tell me the correct point to connect to on the engine. It's a Johnson 60ES71C, 1971 60hp.

Look for a grey colored wire at the control box,(throttle).
Thats should be the signal wire from the rectifier.

Thanks, I expected to have to run the cable from the motor. Will it be connected to anything in the control unit?

Great, found the grey wire and connected the tacho. Haven't had chance to run the engine up and test it yet, but the fact the needle bounces when the ingition switch is turned off is a good sign. Thanks, turned out easier than I expected.

Ok, I thought that went too well. Tested the engine and no rev counter. checked the witing at the engine and the grey wire isn't connecterd to antything at that end, just floating loose. Where should it be connected to?
