hi again
i need to know where the sender wire from the engine is connected at the engine end, i have a rev counter that worked and has stopped since the stator and switchbox was replaced. it is currently connected to the rigght hand connector of the rectifier (which was also replaced) and the has continuity to the rev counter and there is 12v at the rev counter , just no revs showing. i have tried a new rev counter and still no joy so i think the wire is on the wrong connection ? any help appreciated.

Re: rev counter wiring

The tach lead can be connected to either yellow wire at the rectifier.

Re: rev counter wiring

many thanks, i have checked and it was connected to the yellow wire on the right of the rectifier, so i switched it to the one on the left and the rev counter works well, thanks again.

Re: rev counter wiring

You might test that rectifier to see that all the diodes are good. What you describe indicate that at least one diode is open. Your engine will only charge 1/2 as much, with a bad rectifier, and could also have a short to ground, causing a discharge.

Re: rev counter wiring

the rectifier was new when the stator and switchbox were changed last week so i hope it is not a duff one? i get 12-14v off the red top wire that goes to the solenoid and 4v off one yellow on the left (now connected with rev counter) and 0v off the right yellow wire. when the stator was changed the wiring that came with was an awful lot more than on the original and also had a black transformer with , is it possible that the other yellow is no longer needed or has the the same purpose as the old wiring etc..?

Re: rev counter wiring

Rectifier requires both yellow leads... But with one showing 0v, I'd be checking the rectifier again... If that shows good, then check the stator, one of them is crook... You should be getting about 16v AC across the yellow leads....

Re: rev counter wiring

now youve got me worried again , as i have just had brand new stator and switchbox and rectifier fitted, i have been out on it three times since for about 8 hrs in total and the battery is still showing 12 volts. i will check the voltage on the rectifier points at the weekend and let you know my findings.

Re: rev counter wiring

Measure AC voltage on both yellow wires. Put the ohmmeter across both yellow leads. You should get a few ohms resistance. Yellow leads to ground should be open
