Well, I'm no expert but I think you've hit the limiter. If you loosen the pack and look on the bottom there will be some numbers. One will be either 62L or 67L. I'm fairly sure the 250 in the early 90's was at 6200.

What kind of boat? Do you need to turn it more?

Good luck!

DHADLEY...
it's on a 21 foot Baja Hammer. the boat is designed for an inboard and with one weighed in at 3500lbs. my boat has a stainless marine gill bracket and land & sea jackplate. i can get it up to 68 mph on light chop. i havn't used the jack plate yet(switch died).it's in the full down position.i have a 4 blase 25 pitch. it's a fun boat! also, what do you mean by PACK? thanks

The numbers are on the power pack. Its right behind the flywheel on top.

Sounds like a fun boat. Be very careful of that jackplate. If its an early one I have seen them fall from full up.

Your running at about 20% slip with that 25" prop. You should be able to do better. You dont have a nose cone - right? At 20% slip with a 25" I dont think that 21" High 5 will do you much good.

Good luck!

Re: rev limiter on my V8...which one?

what kind of prop would you recommend? the 4 blade is a 13.75/25. i also tried a raker 3 blade 14.5/23 and with 4 people in the boat i couldnt get on plane or over 3000rpm. no, i dont have a nose cone. the jackplate is old and is real slow.it takes about 10 seconds to travel 4 inches.i'd like to get a stainless marine jackplate.it has the least setbackof most of the jackplates i've looked at. i also like the dial control compared to the flimsey toggle switch i have. thanks for all help.i'm sorry to ask so many questions of you....james

OK. Youre doing good. Use the Gorilla Jack from Stainless - not the standard one. Personally I prefer the Bob's but the Stainless works well. Once you get the plate working try the Raker again. That doesnt suprise me that it was difficult to turn. The Raker bites hard. As for a 4 blade I would look at the Turbo Ultima 4. Its got a 14 1/4 diameter and will hook up at a high X dimension.

Believe it or not, in this case not having a nosecone is a good thing. The V8 gearcase is fairly long and the blowout speed is quite high. I think once you get the Bobs .....oops! ....Stainless Marine jackplate you will be very close to getting her dialed in.

Keep us informed. This is the fun stuff!

what do you mean "high x dimension"? what pitch would you recommend for turbo ultima 4? i need to go with the least set back jackplate to try to keep the center of gravity as far forward as possible.i think the gorilla is 4.25 thick.....james

Re: rev limiter on my V8...which one?

well, the way it was set up(jackplate all the way down and 29inch stainless bracket) i cant trim my motor up very much before she starts chine walking. i have dual piston trim tabs that i run all the way up at fast speeds. if i take her out in 2 to 4 seas i run the tabs about half way down becauses the bow bounces hard with all the weight out back.do you have a pitch recommendation for the turbo ultima 4? ill check which rev limiter i have and report later....james

Re: rev limiter on my V8...which one?

went out in the rain and took the powerpack cover off. found the numbers:CD8AL/67. then i took out my JohnRude service and confermed that powerpack rpm limit is 6700rpm. also found out i have S.L.O.W. will that cut the power if a problem occurs? so i figure i am overpropped with the 25pitch 4 blade. maybe bring it down a 24 or 23pitch?......james

I would test the 23" Ultima first. You may be able to swing the 25" but I would start with the 23".

The larger diameter and added lift should help the chine walking too. Another thing that will help is one of the larger fins. The small ones wont do a lot but something like the King Fin should help a lot. I'll see if I can get a line on one for you.
