The last time we went to Peanut Island was interesting. The HMS Bounty, replaca of course, is on display until spring. We decided to take my folks to see her. What a ship! We were able to get within feet of her. She stood proud in all her her 19th century sailing garb. This is the ship the movie was filmed on. After taking several pictures of her we decided to tie up to the dock and have lunch. All went well until we departed. As we were leaving the cove a large Manitee surfaced directly in front of us! The ICW is under Manitee Speed Zone NO WAKE from the island until about half way home. As we idled out she broke the water and it was reverse fast!! As she lumber past we were able to enjoy seeing her up close. She took her time, not like a sea cow is speedy by any stretch, enjoying the warm water. Good to see that their numbers are starting to increase. With all of us enjoying the show none of us remembered the camera! BTW, I think its a $5000 fine if you hit one. Safe boating to all and enjoy the sights.

Re: Reverse fast!!!

I think their number are really up now. Good thing. We were by Estero Island in the west coast a couple of years back and had a group of maiting nearly hit us!

Believe me they could not have cared less if we were there or not. Must have been 5-7 of them!

My wife thought they were playing............:D

There's a bazillion of them right there at the Riveria Beach power plant's warm water outflow, which is almost directly in front of the plant, and very close to where you were.
