I've got a 1966 West Bend/Chrysler 50 hp outboard. Every time I put it into reverse, the engine kicks up out of the water. Is there some mechanism on this OB that holds it down in reverse? Thanks in advance.
I believe it is external. In the area of the trim pin it may actually latch on the pin.
probably activated by a rod or cable. It normally latches as you shift to neutral when in forward it is disingaged. You may be able to see it if you tip up the motor.
It will be attached to the leg not the mounting bracket.
