Hi Folks, I've got a 1979 v175 and when I back the boat up in the water the motor rears up towards the boat then slams down once I let off of the throttle. The tilt/trim system works just fine and is one of the old prestolite systems which has the AC motor that sits on top of the rectangular resevoir. Also, I've made sure that the bypass (knurled knob) is locked. The only thing thats different about this sytem that I can't find much information on is that there is what appears to be a solenoid or valve which comes out of the bottom side of the trim pump resevoir which has a wire attached to the end of it. I've been told that this is a reverse lock that holds the motor when in reverse but again I can't find any info, part numbers, etc on this mystery piece of the puzzle.
I appreicate any help that can be offered for this.
