I have a 454 that supposedly is supposed to run RH? THe boat sat for along time before given to me to try and get running. It is a replacement engine that looks like someone used alot of auto parts on. So far I am trying to see if the motor runs and then get the boat to safe marine operating condition. It is a gm big block with no other identifying marks on it. It was made in oct 77 in toledo. When trying to start it it was acting like it was spinning backwards gas out of the carb and pulling air through the exhaust when cranking. It supposedly ran when put away. When I crank it over the rotor on the distributor spins ccw when looking from the top. I have been reading and people are telling me no matter the rotation of the engine the distributor should spin cw. Is this the case? I read about some fords having ccw spinning distributors but they were on the front of the motor. THis is at the rear along with the starter. ANy ideas? THe motor looks great very little rust I would like it to run as the rest of the boat is in decent condition. ALso what is a good place to get some decent used marine parts like distributor, and alternator? I am going to buy a brand new marine carb the starter is marine and the block has brass frost plugs any other marine parts I am overlooking to replace?
