reverse stalling issue

I've searched this and sounds like either RPM too low or lower shift cable? Not sure if this is my solution?

Eng. runs perfectly (97 5.7L Mercruiser, Bravo II just fully serviced/tuned). After warming up for 5-10 mins. before backing out of my slip engaging reverse stalls the boat every time. Usually takes about 3 or 4 tries restarting before it will stay running in reverse. Forward gear works fine after warming up for 5-15 mins. (makes no diff.) but not reverse. After it reverse works and i've backed out of the spot i have tested putting back in neutral letting idle for a bit then trying reverse again and no issues... only issue first time i put into reverse trying to leave the dock!??

Check the specifications regarding idle in the water in neutral, not on muffs.

Then try to change gears.

Check shift cutout switch adjustmentlocated on shift plate.

You have the classic sign of a sticking lower shift cable,It'll bind and hold the shift interrupter for to long a time just replace the cable and case it comes in a kit

Sounds like a bad lower shift cable.

lucky i downloaded a shop manual. I'll check into that from the manual and figure out how to do it. Is it an easy quick job? Where's the best place to source parts online for mercruiser?

Took a look through the service manual. Can't find it. Would this be something covered in the service manual?

I did some more testing. It's happening in both forward and reverse when i try to leave the dock. Is it lower and upper shift cables or is there an adjustment i can try?

they can be adjusted and you should be able to find any thing you need right here at iboats

can i try micro adjustment at the cable end at engine? Slightly shorten the cable to engage shifting more or less? anyone know?

They were never designed to be cut and if it's sticking now it's going to stick after you cut it.

No, replace the lower shift cable. Replace the shift shaft bushings with the new style seals; usually the lower shift cable fails because water has gotten into the shifter cavity and up into the cable.
