Re: Rib/Sib specific motor applications.

Went on and replaced the rope with a rope exactly 72 and 1/4 inches long. Had to get a new handle. I can pull it over now with my left arm. The original rope was about a foot too short. I think my problem is solved, with the exception of a sticky choke. A few dollars worth of rope sure saved me some money.

What will make the choke operate consistently? It is 50 degrees here today, which I am sure doesn't help.

I'm trying to resist. I'm going to Bradenton Beach over Christmas, and there is a Yamaha dealer who lists on e-bay at St.Petersburg Beach, which is just a few miles away. We'll see how much will power I have.

Well the 25 quit on me yesterday with wife and 7 year old just south of the southerly bridge to Anna Marie Island. I had just stopped for fuel. Think my problem was fuel related? Luckily, we were close to camp and got a tow. Visited the Yamaha dealer in St. Pete Beach (Pass a Grille Marina) and got the 15. What a difference. It actually idles without dying. MUCH quieter. And it hardly smokes, even at 24 to 1. Top speed is about the same, but my air floor lost some pressure and I'm not supposed to run it on WOT during break in. I think they meant EXTENDED WOT. The fastest I got it up to during 2 day use is a little over 18 (according to my GPS). I got it over 15 with a squishy floor and a brief WOT.

I see you ended up getting the 15...it is one heck of a little motor, best I have ever owned. Keep me posted on how you like it once you finish the break in. Since getting into tow sports with the SD365, I do want a little more motor for towing...trying to get one of the those 30 HP, two or three cylinder 2 strokes.... tough to find in my area, let alone a short shaft. We'll see. I still have a few months before water will be warm enough to tow.

Re: Rib/Sib specific motor applications.

My speeds in the earlier post were with boat seat assemblies (front and Rear) in place (the boats to go aluminum seat tube system). I also found and fixed a pinhole leak in the area by the oar pads. When I ran it with only the double seat, 3 people (1 being 7 years old) I got it over 20 mph. That is fast enough for my purposes. I don't really have enough power to run both seat assemblies, but I can tell you they make riding much more comfortable. The double is the best deal though, because you don't really need both rows. Its pretty easy to reach behind you to steer with another person beside you, and our 7 YO likes to ride in the front.

How many tanks should I run on 24 to 1? Do you run 100 to 1 after break in?

I did everything I could to avoid buying another motor. I think the ethanol Florida requires dissolved the rubber in my fuel system, causing my breakdown. I wish I could have bought your motor. I hinted around, earlier, but you didn't bite! Want my 25 at a good price?

JSP, that's too bad I'm thickheaded. I didn't pick up the hints, but I am actually considering selling the motor to upgrade right now. I can't wait for the weather to warm up in VA so I can get out there. How do you like the double seat assembly?

Re: Rib/Sib specific motor applications.

I love the double seat. I always felt like I was holding on for dear life before. It feels like a regular boat with the seats.

I'm going to rebuild my carberator and replace the hoses on my 25. It looks good, and I think I've got the bugs worked out of it. If I can't get a good price for it I'll just keep in. I might need it for something, and and they aren't making any more 85 pound 25 hp. I didn't want to lift the 100 plus pounds for the Yamaha 25.

The idle and starting of the 15 are truly awsome, but there is a very noticible power difference. The 25 planed both seat assemblies easily planed out one pin down from fully planed out. I had to use the very bottom pin on the 15 to get it to plane with both seat assembles, and that was a chore.

I've got a picture of both seat assemblies with the 25 on the boat that I need to get to the web hoster to post later.

JSP, good looking setup. That looks like it was a fun family outing. Anyways how do you like those transom wheels? I remember looking at them when i first got the boat, but never got any. Also how well can you steer with the seats installed, it looks like it would inhibit hard turning, but maybe its just the photo. Also when you just have the double seats in, do you steer from those or just sit behind them? Sorry to hear about the 15 being a little underpowered...I hope you aren't too disappointed. Before I got the lifters from MaxiMarine, I remember the 15 lugging slightly to get on a plane(like 3 sec.), but once I installed those lifters it really made that motor feel about 25% more powerful, plus got much better gas mileage and smoother ride...etc.

I love them. I use my boat on week long vacations. I assemble it on the first day, and haul the boat out of the water after every use. When my motor died, I couldn't get the boat back to the campground, so I used a rachet strap in my roof rack, racheted the front of the boat up, and towed the boat about a mile to the campsite. I went about 10 mph. It worked perfectly.

The pictures show the motors tilted up. When they aren't tilted up, there is plenty of room to steer, even at sharp angles. I can't remember if I had to raise the tiller, but I don't recall a problem. With only the double seat installed, the seat is moved up further so there is even more room. I had no trouble steering while being seated. I did go behind the seat when I raised the wheels and I backed out of the ramp due to the sharp steering angle required. But once I put it in gear, I moved back up to the seat.

I have a Sting Ray fin, but I can't use lifters because of the wheels. I think my solution of only using the double seat is best. It also makes the boat easier to get out of the water, and takes up less space while traveling. I will continue to take one of the old board seats in case I need it, but I predict its use will be few and far between.

Well..., I just ordered a set of Lifters. I'm going to try to install them without moving the c channel for the wheels. Wish me luck.
