Richter anchor, right ?

Hi all-

Here is my pontoon. 30' and with all that canvas, the wind blows me all over.

While I am on a calm lake, I want to anchor in tight coves and not worry about moving. I have a fluke anchor, but paying out the line doesn't work in tight coves.

I was thinking of 25lb richter anchors. One for the front, one for the rear. I just drop these over the side, right (no paying out line)? My lake is mud bottom.

I thought about a mushroom, but I don't think that would bite into the bottom like a Richter would.

Thanks for feedback.

Calvin, I have no experience w/ a richter style anchor, but I would recommend the box anchor highly. I've had about every style and weight of the fluke / Danforth anchors over the years w/ 3 party barges, but none compares to the holding ability of a box anchor IMO. They are a bit pricy, but worth it. Good luck !!!

I have an 18 footer and had all the canvas up once or twice. What a wind sail that was. I was at the time using a navy style anchor / chain along with a mushroom. They did nothing to hold in the sandy bottom of the gulf. I had more than 7-1 out and they both just dragged the bottom. I ended up with a proper sized danforth style / chain and she holds perfectly. I must say though I haven't had all the canvas up with it but the way it digs in I find it hard to think it wouldn't hold with proper rode.

I have a 24" with almost the same canvas (less the hard top) and been around boats all my life, paying out the line is what makes the anchor work - no mater what kind it is. in vary small coves I have tied into both sides of a cove and then pulled myself back out to the middle, but that only works if no one will ever need to get past.
How deep is the water in the coves you like.
